Croatia has undergone recent infrastructure developments, especially in rapidly growing its motorway network. It now has over 1,200 km of motorways connecting Zagreb to most other Croatian regions and is considered of high quality and excellent security. The best known motorways are the A1, connecting Zagreb to Split and the A3, connecting east and north-west Croatia. Most motorways are tolled in proportion to the length of the used section and the vehicle group.

Entering Croatia by car
In order to enter Croatia by car, the following documents are necessary:
- Driver’s license
- Automobile registration card
- Vehicle insurance documents.
Foreign nationals who have been granted temporary residence in Croatia may drive a motor vehicle only if they have a valid foreign driver’s license for a period of one year following the day of entry into Croatia.
Registering cars in Croatia
Foreign nationals who have been granted temporary residence in Croatia and are in possession of a vehicle registered abroad (with valid registration documents and insurance), may use their car for period of no more than three months following the day of entry into Croatia.
